Welcome

As a contemporary pastel artist based in the Greater Geneva area, I paint realistic portraits of women in dry pastel, inspired by fabrics and drapery from around the world. My work explores identity, cultural diversity, and human dignity. Through texture and color, fabrics become a form of language.

Combining precise drawing with free, expressive strokes, dry pastel is the medium that allows me to bring fabrics to life and reveal the velvety softness of skin.

I regularly exhibit in France at pastel art shows, in Switzerland, at the United Nations, and internationally.

Welcome to my world…

My Pastels

In my pastel gallery, my portraits of women await you, ready to share their stories; faces, figures seen from behind, and scenes from everyday life invite you to connect with others and with yourself… may these encounters be beautiful!

My events

For several years now, I have been exhibiting my pastels in France, Switzerland, and around the world: pastel shows, contemporary art exhibitions at the United Nations, and art events in the Pays de Gex.

Each exhibition is an opportunity to meet new people and engage in new conversations about my work.

Below, you’ll find details about my latest exhibition or my upcoming one!

My blog

Pastel is a challenging and exciting medium that I love to share beyond my canvases. On this blog, I’ll take you behind the scenes of my work and my sources of inspiration.

Here you’ll find articles on my pastel techniques, my tips, my brushstrokes, and how I work with texture and light to bring fabrics to life and reveal the velvety softness of skin. I also share my perspective on painters who inspire me and enrich my practice, as I continue to discover new artists and meet new people. Finally, I’ll take you along with me as I reflect on exhibitions—both in France and abroad—so you can experience these moments of sharing and exchange centered on art.

It’s a way to extend our connection beyond the portraits and open the doors to my creative world a little wider for you.

Want to chat ?

When I first met Sylvie, what immediately struck me was the gentleness in her gaze and, at the same time, the quiet flame that drives her. A pastel artist based in Greater Geneva, she brings to life portraits of women with remarkable sensitivity and precision.
She portrays them through fabrics from around the world: a crumpled sari, a delicate veil, a hand-embroidered textile. Behind each drape, she seeks far more than a beautiful rendering of texture. She explores identity, cultural diversity, and the quiet dignity that inhabits each face. Her soft pastels tell stories without words, through colours that echo one another, shadows that gently caress the skin, and folds that become a language of their own.
I had the privilege of accompanying her for a time in my studio. Those were precious moments, filled with experimentation, sincere exchanges, small victories and wonderful surprises. I can still picture some of the works in progress—the moments of hesitation, followed by the creative impulse taking over. Today, seeing her flourish fully in her freedom as a woman and an artist fills me with profound joy. Her recognition continues to grow, and I realise how fortunate I was to cross paths with her and, in my own modest way, to have contributed to her journey. I wanted to share this sense of pride because it is sincere and, quite simply, deeply moving to me.

Sylvie Sanseau’s art is a testimony of her love for India, its women and the ever elegant saree. It is evident in the beautiful way she paints the women. It is so vibrant and lifelike that it seems her subjects are going to step off the canvas and talk to you. The expressions on the faces of her subjects are exceptionally lifelike. Her command over the canvas is breathtaking indeed!
I always forward to seeing her paintings. Without doubt she is an artist par excellence!

Your paintings never cease to fill me with admiration. What strikes me most, beyond the drapery, is the remarkable accuracy of your subjects’ gazes. They convey an infinite gentleness—deeply affecting, almost contagious, I would say. A touch of grace in these troubled times.

When genius meets art, the result is something wonderful. Thank you for your magnificent paintings. Thank you for these magnificent pastels, which invites us to slow down and truly look. So many experiences gathered throughout your travels, so many discoveries shared through works that gradually reveal themselves, giving us time to experience and feel them.
